By Jhon Aldrin Casinas  A hotel in Pasig City has been converted into a quarantine facility by the city government to offer additional quarantine facilities amid the threat of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). “Dahlia Hotel Pasig has now been converted into a quarantine facility. It can hold at least 300 people at once,” Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said. Citing experts, Sotto noted that there is a high chance that cases of the disease will increase. With this, the city mayor said: “Kailangan handa tayo (We need to be ready).” He noted that supervised 14-day quarantines of persons under monitoring and/or investigation for the disease with mild to moderate symptoms is “one way we can minimize community risk.” In his Facebook page, Sotto has expressed his gratitude to the owners of the hotel, adding that only the water and the electric bills will be paid by the city government. The city government has already made a request for the purchase of 400,000 food packs to be distributed to its residents in dire need amid the “enhanced community quarantine.” The requested food packs worth about P158 million, has packs containing rice and canned goods. It is expected to be delivered by the weekend. Aside from the food packs, the city government has also procured an initial 5,000 bottles of vitamins. Pasig City has also used drone technology for its misting and disinfection activities around the city.
