Parañaque LGU puts 15 sitios in Brgy. Baclaran under calibrated lockdown

By Jean Fernando The Parañaque City government placed a total of 15 sitios in Brgy. Baclaran under a calibrated lockdown on the morning of May 21, Thursday, and would last until May 23, Saturday, 6 a.m. (Mayor Edwin Olivarez / MANILA BULLETIN) (Mayor Edwin Olivarez / MANILA BULLETIN) Initially, the city government announced that only 10 streets or sitios would be placed under a calibrated lockdown in Baclaran. But the five connecting streets, which serve as entry points, were also closed by order of Mayor Edwin Olivarez. The streets that the mayor initially ordered closed were in Area Zone 4 in Baclaran. These are Bagong Sikat, Bagong Lipunan, Bagong Pag-asa, Bagong Ilog, E. Rodriguez, Bagong Buhay, Bagong Silang, Dimasalang Extension, Mabuhay, and 12 de Junio. Realizing that five other streets—Santiago, Espritu, Sanchez, Pinaglabanan, and Rimas—connect as entry points to these 10 sitios, the city government also ordered them closed. The busy Brgy. Baclaran, with a population of about 29, 000, also has a number of illegal and legal tiangges, selling everything from clothes and electronics to home decorations and traditional medicine. These occupy Coast Road and Taft Avenue, which are now being manned by a total of 142 policemen and barangay watchmen. On Thursday, the city government already started with the distribution of family food packs, enough to last until Saturday, to Barangay Baclaran residents. The police warned city residents not to go out of their respective houses, otherwise they risk being arrested. They also said that patrolling policemen who will find residents standing even just by the doorsteps or main doors of their houses will also be arrested. The city government also started fetching all those that need to undergo mandatory testing for COVID-19. They were brought to Baclaran Elementary School, the city’s designated isolation facility.
