Three cases of the South African variant of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have been recorded in Parañaque City, Administrator Ding Soriano confirmed on Monday (March 8).

In a text message, Soriano said that the cases are in Barangays Baclaran, Sun Valley, and Don Bosco.
He added that he has no information if these cases are from returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez said that there has been an increase in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the city and a rise in the number of confinements of COVID-19 patients in the past weeks.
Olivarez was informed by barangay officials from Tambo, Baclaran, Vitalez, Merville, and Sun Valley that COVID-19 cases have been “quickly spreading” in their respective villages since the middle of February.
As of Sunday (March 7), the total number of active cases in the city is 358 with 53 new cases.
To date, Barangay Baclaran which is nearest to Pasay City where the surge of COVID-19 cases was first seen, has the most number of active cases at 46.
