This year, April 9 will be a “double date”—it will be Day of Valor (or Araw ng Kagitingan) and Maundy Thursday. It will be a celebration commemorating those who defended our freedom and fought for a better future for us. It will also be a reminder that leadership is about service.
Sen. Kiko Pangilinan
(Senate of the Philippines / MANILA BULLETIN) Opposition Senator Francis Pangilinan stressed this as he thanked the new heroes who, in this current health crisis, have shown their strength and sense of purpose in the fight against the dreaded coronavirus disease (COVID-19) “These are the workers who keep the health and food supply chains moving: Health workers who take care of the sick; supermarket staff and suppliers who make sure we have access to essential items; delivery service crew who bring the goods to our doorsteps; security guards who keep establishments secure; farmers who work in the fields to make sure we have food in the coming days; garbage collectors who keep our communities clean; local government officials and all other frontliners who try to make the best with what they have. We honor them for fighting for our future, for serving with humility, and in a sense, washing our feet,” he said. “Saludo rin sa lahat ng mga OFW health workers, lalong-lalo na ang mga nars, sa lahat ng bahagi ng buong mundo, sa kanilang serbisyo para sa kalusugan ng sangkatauhan (We also salute all the OFW health workers, particularly nurses, in every part of the world, for their services for the health of all),” he said. “Ngayon at araw-araw pagkatapos ng quarantine, patuloy nating pasasalamatan ang mga bayani at lingkod-pinunong mga ito, at makikipagtulungan sa kanila upang matiyak ang kapakanan at kinabukasan ng lahat (Today and every day after the enhanced community quarantine is lifted, we will continue to thank these heroes, these servant leaders, and work with them to ensure the welfare and future of all),” he added.
