Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan did not mention any names, but he still took a swipe at rivals for not attending political debates ahead of the May 2022 elections.

Speaking during a campaign sortie in Oriental Mindoro on Thursday, March 3, Pangilinan highlighted the importance of debates, especially the candidates are courting the people for votes.
The senator likened the candidates to suitors who need to show up. “Hindi ba dapat ‘yung nanliligaw haharap? Hindi ‘yung hindi sumasama sa mga debate (Is it not the suitors should face us? They shouldn’t be hiding from the debates)?”
Pangilinan compared the situation to his daughters’—KC, Frankie, and Miel—suitors.
“‘Yung anak ko, tatlo ang anak kong babae, pagka may nanliligaw sa kanila at hindi humaharap, nirerespeto ba ako (My daughters, I have three girls, when someone courts them and don’t face me, do they respect me)?”
The crowd answered, “No!”
“Pag hindi sila humarap, mukhang may tinatago...Kailangan ang taumbayan ginagalang (If they don’t face me, they might be hiding something...the people have to be respected),” he said.
Pangilinan is the vice-presidential running mate of Vice President Leni Robredo. They have criticized their rivals for being 'no-show' in debates.
UniTeam candidates Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio have not been joining the presidential and vice-presidential debates.
On Thursday, the Robredo and Pangilinan continued their campaign sortie in Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro, where they were endorsed by Mindoro 2nd District Rep. Alfonso Umali Jr. for the two highest seats of the land.

The lawmaker described the Robredo-Pangilinan tandem as the hope of the country.
“Huwag na tayong magkakamali. Pagkaisahan na natin ito. Napakaraming magagawa. Napakaraming babaguhin (We should not make a mistake. Let’s be united on this. We can do a lot of things. We have to change many things),” Umali said.
The congressman then asked Pinamalayan residents to vote straight for the Leni-Kiko slate.
“Lahat ng kandidato, tulungan natin at makakita kayo na tuloy ang pag-asenso at pag-unlad ng Bayan ng Pinamalayan at hindi lang iyan, ang buong segunda at parteng primera distrito (Let’s help all of their candidates and we will see progress in the town of Pinamalayan and not only that, the entire second and part of the primary district),” he added.
