Frankie Pangilinan, daughter of the senator and singer-actress Sharon Cuneta, said on Friday that she would sponsor the bail of one of the Sitio San Roque residents.
She said her parents would pay for the 20 others.
Frankie volunteered in response to a tweet by Bayan Secretary-General Renato Reyes, who called for donations to help free the detained protesters, who are now facing multiple charges after staging a rally to appeal for food and other assistance from the government amid the enhanced community quarantine being implemented in Luzon.
Reyes said each of them should pay a P15,000 bail.
Actress Jodi Sta. Maria has also pledged to help the arrested protesters.
Meanwhile, Sen. Pangilinan on Saturday reiterated his appeal to the government to focus on fighting the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) by supporting hospitals and health workers.
He also told the administration to address hunger among poor families by implementing the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, which mandates the distribution of cash aid and other forms of assistance to informal sector households amid the pandemic.
"The clarion call for all of us is to pull our heads and resources together to mitigate the negative impacts of this pandemic to our people without violating their rights and dignity," the opposition lawmaker said in a statement.
"There is a time for reckoning but right now, we have to act fast and decisively to end this national nightmare and save more lives," Pangilinan appealed.
