OVP gives COVID-19 test kits to AFP hospital, 3 labs

Luna General Hospital in Quezon City, received locally developed COVID-19 test kits from Vice President Leni Robredo’s office to boost ongoing mass testing efforts. 8a1e0e9d-49e6-40da-ba44-655b2b9063b7 (OVP / MANILA BULLETIN) Robredo announced this on her official Facebook page after her office purchased P14 million worth of COVID-19 test kits from Manila HealthTek Inc. The medical research company manufactures and distributes the test kits developed by scientists of the UP-National Institutes of Health and funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Robredo said her office delivered the test kits to V. Luna Hospital since it’s one of the certified laboratories for coronavirus testing. The San Lazaro Hospital in Manila, Lung Center of the Philippines in Quezon City, and Bicol Regional Diagnostic and Reference Laboratory are the other beneficiary testing centers. “We have chosen such hospitals because they have not been given UP test kits by DOST,” Robredo said in a post. She said these test kits, which include detection and extraction kits, would allow the four laboratories to accommodate up to 10,000 tests. On Friday, Robredo met with microbiologist and infectious diseases expert Dr. Raul Destura during her visit to Manila HealthTek, Inc. The Philippines has expanded COVID-19 testing and is currently using procured test kits from other countries. Robredo’s office earlier donated P5.3 million worth of extraction kits for the conduct of coronavirus tests at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) in Muntinlupa City.
