OVP distributes food packs, aerosols to COVID-19 frontliners

By Raymund Antonio Medical frontliners from various hospitals in Metro Manila have received food packs and aerosol boxes from the Office of the Vice President amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak. As part of its ongoing assistance drive, the OVP distributed the items to aid health workers in the fight against the deadly disease. Vice President Leni Robredo said the food and care packages were also given to other frontliners such as security guards, janitors, midwives, and other essential personnel in hospitals. Each care package contains soap, coffee, vitamins, cleansing wipes, and biscuits. About P5.6 million worth of funds from public donations were allocated for 11,193 food and care packages for COVID-19 frontliners. As of Monday, the OVP and its private partner Kaya Natin! Movement have raised P39.3 million in cash donations for the needs of health workers. Robredo said they have also delivered aerosol boxes for hospitals in Metro Manila in addition to the food packs and protective gears. Among the recipient hospitals were the Lung Center of the Philippines, Philippine Heart Center, and Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM). Included were Rizal Medical Center, Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital, The Medical City - Pasig, and St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City and Taguig City. “These aerosol boxes are extra-protection for our medical frontliners who perform procedures, such as intubation, to patients who are possible or confirmed to have been hit by disease,” she said. ”With this, their exposure is limited to patient droplets, where they can get the virus,” Robredo noted.
