Labor Undersecretary Claro Arellano reported that a total of 22,426 out of the 24,000 OFWs in quarantine facilities have so far been transported to their respective hometowns as of 6 a.m. of Saturday, May 30.
“Of this figure, 19,042 were transported between May 25 28 and 3,384 were brought home on May 29 alone,” Arellano said in a statement.
Arellano also reported that the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has provided 159 buses for transportation while “some were transported by sea and air.”
“Some of the OFW’s relatives likewise fetched their OFWs from the hotels and quarantine facilities,” said Arellano.
The labor official said that the OFWs that were already sent home have been cleared from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
“All the Filipino migrant workers sent home tested negative for the novel coronavirus,” he said.
To note, President Duterte on May 25 instructed concerned government agencies to immediately bring home the OFWs who have been stuck in quarantine facilities, where they stayed while waiting for their test results. Duterte said that it should be done within a week.
“The DOLE will do its best to transport all the remaining OFWs in the quarantine facilities before the deadline set by the President,” said Arellano.
