Occupancy rate of Manila quarantine facilities now at 91%

The occupancy rate of Manila's quarantine facilities for COVID-19 cases reached 91 percent on Thursday (Feb. 18), the city mayor announced.

In a live broadcast on Facebook, Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso said 488 of the 539 beds in the isolation facilities are occupied.

Meanwhile, 167 of the 304 COVID-19 beds in the city's district hospitals, or around 55 percent, are also occupied.

Domagoso warned residents to be more careful because there might be no more space in Manila's hospitals and quarantine facilities if they contract COVID-19.

The Manila mayor said even private hospitals are filling up.

"Lahat pataas, at tataas pa 'yan pag patuloy pa tayong nagpabaya (The occupancy rates are getting higher, and they will continue to increase if we continue to be negligent)," he said. 

"Itong mga numerong ito (These numbers), buhay ang nasa likod ng mga numerong ito (there are lives behind these numbers)," he added. 

Data from the city government showed that as of Friday (March 19), the capital city has 2,155 active cases out of 32,587 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Of this number, 29,585 have recovered while 847 have died.
