Number of COVID-19-stricken Filipinos overseas rises to 1,707 – DFA

By Minka Klaudia Tiangco The Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday reported 30 additional cases of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who contracted the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), bringing the total number of cases across 46 countries to 1,707. The DFA also reported another death from Europe and four new recoveries – two from the Middle East, one from Europe, and one from the Americas. The total number of Filipinos abroad who have recovered from the disease have now reached 455, while the death toll is at 202. The DFA also said there are now 1,050 Filipinos receiving medical treatment for COVID-19 abroad. Among the regions, Europe has the highest number of OFWs who tested positive for COVID-19 with 496 cases, followed by the Americas with 473 cases, Asia and the Pacific with 373 cases, and the Middle East and Africa with 365 cases. In the Philippines, there are now 8,772 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 1,084 recoveries and 579 mortalities as of Friday.
