Not yet time for long runs, mountain treks for Davao City outdoor enthusiasts

DAVAO CITY – Outdoor enthusiasts intending to go on long-distance runs or nature hikes may have to set aside those plans for now as the city government here has only allowed residents to “exercise, or go out into the sun, or get some fresh air” within a few meters from their homes.

This was underscored by Mayor Sara Duterte in an interview over 87.5 Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) as the city started to live under a more relaxed general community quarantine (GCQ) Saturday, May 16.
The mayor reminded Dabawenyos to continue to remain inside their homes even as the city has lowered the quarantine status to GCQ from the more restrictive enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) after nearly six weeks.
The mayor said that movement of the people would still be limited to prevent transmission of the highly contagious coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), except for those who will buy food and medicines, and workers who will report for work.
She said the jeepneys would now be allowed to continue operation, but reminded the drivers and operators to strictly adhere to the distancing rules and that each unit must have plastic barriers between passengers.
An order issued by Duterte provides that ECQ in the entire city or specific barangays could still be re-implemented at any time upon the recommendation of the epidemiologist and infectious disease specialists.
She said the city government has adopted the Omnibus Guidelines on the implementation of the Community Quarantine to enforce the 15-day GCQ here.
The City Government of Davao would implement an eight-hour curfew from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to serve the workers who are expected to return to work once the shift to GCQ is allowed by the national government.
