No new COVID deaths among overseas Filipinos

No new death due to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was reported among overseas Filipinos Saturday, the Department of Foreign Affairs said.

A lone confirmed case of the disease and one recovered patient were also reported, bringing the total cases of COVID-19 among Filipinos abroad to 8,804 with 5,266 recoveries and 594 deaths.

The reported case and one recovery were recorded from a country in Asia and the Pacific, which currently has 679 confirmed cases with 556 recoveries and four deaths, the department said.

Most of the cases among Filipinos abroad are reported in countries in the Middle East with 6,379. Countries in Europe have 1,047 cases, while countries in the Americas have 699 cases of Filipinos infected with the disease.

Countries in the Middle East have the most recovered patients with 3,832. Asia Pacific Region had 556 recoveries, Europe has 468, and Americas with 410.

While most of the cases were recorded in the Middle East, most deaths among Filipinos overseas were noted in the Americas.

Meanwhile, the department expressed that “as we celebrate World Population Day in the midst of the global threat of COVID-19, the DFA, along with its Foreign Service Posts around the world, continues to ensure the protection of the welfare of our overseas Filipinos and remains fully committed to its repatriation efforts, leaving no one behind.”
