For two consecutive days, San Juan City has reported zero new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) deaths and infections.
According to Mayor Francis Zamora, the number of COVID-19 cases in the city remains at 302 with 40 deaths and 138 recoveries as of May 23.
“Second straight day of zero COVID-19 cases and zero COVID-19 deaths recorded in San Juan covering the dates May 22 and 23, 2020,” Zamora said Sunday.
May 23 is the second day that the city has recorded no new infection since March 12 when President Duterte imposed a 30-day lockdown in Metro Manila starting midnight of March 15.
The first time was on March 26, based on the data from the local government.
“Napakagandang balita po para sa ating lahat (This is great news for all of us),” Zamora said.
It was in San Juan City where the first local case of COVID-19 in the country was recorded on March 11.
After two months, Zamora bared last May 17 that it now takes longer for COVID-19 cases in San Juan City to double in number.
“We will continue to implement strict protocols to ensure the safety and good health of San Juaneños during the MECQ (Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine),” he said.
