NGCP starts distribution of ₱500-M COVID-19 relief packs

Velasco As it committed to the national government, transmission firm National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has kicked off the distribution of ₱500 million worth of grocery packs as assistance to Filipinos affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) enforcement because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) plague. The relief goods form part of the ₱1.0 billion aid that NGCP had pledged to the government via a letter earlier sent to President Rodrigo Duterte; in which the other critical part of the donation will be the provision of medical equipment highly necessary to support the country’s front-liners against the niggling health battle. “On Saturday (April 11), NGCP commenced the distribution of P500 million worth of grocery items, in line with the ₱1.0 billion assistance to the national government’s COVID-19 relief and response efforts,” the company said. NGCP enthused it is elated with the turnover of the relief packages “as we hope these will help sustain our partner-communities given the extension of the enhanced community quarantine.” The company emphasized the distribution had been carried out in select areas in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao – and these are expected to wind down in the next weeks. On the company’s pledge for medical equipment, NGCP indicated that this is now “in the process of procurement” – and once available, these shall be distributed to specified hospital-beneficiaries. As noted by NGCP, the donation is over and above assistance on personal protective equipment (PPEs), meals and other tools and instruments for medical front-liners as the Philippines has yet to win its battle on flattening the curve relative to the spread of the coronavirus. Beyond these, NGCP also rolled out its “meals on wheels program”, which entails distribution of hot meals to indigent members of the community.” The transmission firm added it will “continue helping various host communities, even beyond its previous efforts and pledge of P1.0 billion assistance.” The company stressed “we understand the importance of a collective, unified effort to combat this pandemic,” while further pledging that it will carry on “to support the government in battling this global health emergency.”
