NCRPO, mall security managers craft security plan under 'new normal'

The Philippine National Police (PNP) and mall security managers have crafted a guideline that will be observed for mall operations under the new normal situation amid the threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID) 19.

Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said the mall security plan was done during a dialogue with mall security officers on Monday.
“The dialogue aims to establish a strategy on how to better address and manage the peculiar challenges brought about by the COVID 19 pandemic to the traditional mall security approach,” said Sinas.
Based on the agreement, these are the basic rules that will be observed under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ):
a. Intensified implementation of social distancing protocol inside mall common areas. The proposed distance guide per person is based on a one person per 2 sq.m. floor area. The mall security officers shall compute the maximum persons to be allowed entry based on the aforementioned computation;
b. Mall entrance and exit will be limited and controlled;
c. Police presence will be strengthened through the establishment of PNP Desks outside the mall;
d. Human traffic to entrances and exits will be modified. All alleys, hallways, pathways, and other medium of convergence shall observe the 'keep-right’ and one-way scheme'; and
e. Waiting in stores, boutiques, and shops will be prohibited. However, under exceptional circumstances, the store owners may opt to provide seats in observance of social distancing protocol to waiting customers.
The dialogue was participated in by security managers of the Ayala Malls, SM Malls, Shangrila, Landmark, Rockwell, and other frequently visited mall establishments in Metro Manila.
Under the GCQ, some business establishments will be allowed to open.
"We had this dialogue primarily to encourage concerted movement of all law enforcement agencies and units, especially those in charge of areas frequented by our people like the malls,” said Sinas.
“This is only an initial dialogue. Several others will follow amid the anticipated announcement of the implementation of the GCQ by the national government,” he added.
