NCCP offers prayers for nation's working class

"Many are those who, because of the 'no work-no pay' policy, have suffered from hunger and have to be dependent on the relief goods that come far in between," NCCP said in their prayer. "Even those who have regular status have ceased to work because of the lockdown. It is always those who are at the bottom of the economic and social pyramid who suffer most," it further read. But then, the NCCP said, even before COVID-19, workers were already faced with problems of low wages, union-busting, red-tagging, and unsound labor-export policy. The group added that many have been forced to leave their families and homes because of job scarcity and under-employment. "Many fall victims to unscrupulous and illegal recruiters. Many work in deplorable conditions," NCCP said. It is for these reasons, the group said that they are lifting the working class to God. "We read in your word about your son whom you have sent to bring good news to the poor; to set free those who are captives and oppressed. We read in your word how you hate injustice upon those who labor and not given their just wage," said NCCP. "Once more we lift up to you the working class. Once more we implore upon your mercy and compassion on them. Listen to their cries. See their plight," the group added. The NCCP released the prayer on May 1, Labor Day.
