Five days after announcing he will undergo self-quarantine, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Jose Arturo Garcia announced that he tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

(MMDA / MANILA BULLETIN) On March 23, Garcia and MMDA spokesperson Assistant Secretary Celine Pialago said that they will go on self-quarantine after they were exposed to a person with COVID-19 during a meeting. “I wish to inform everyone that I will have to work from home as I have been found positive for COVID-19,” Garcia disclosed Saturday morning in a statement. “My work puts me under a lot of risk, and this is part of it. I embrace this challenge with full trust and faith in God that I will overcome the same with your prayers,” he further said. Pialago earlier called on all those that they had contact with to go on self-quarantine. The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has been increasing in the country, based on the daily announcements of the Department of Health.
