Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Tuesday said that they are studying the possibility of placing certain areas in Manila on hard lockdown due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) threat.

(Facebook / MANILA BULLETIN) The Manila mayor in an interview over Dobol B sa News TV said that the city government is assessing if a hard lockdown needs to be enforced in Tondo, Sta. Cruz, San Andres, and Malate. He said that although they are already considering this option, they still want the people in these districts to have ample time to prepare. The move, he explained aims to prevent the spread of the disease. 'Yun ang isang basehan, 'yung exposure ng ating mga kababayan sa pagiging PUI (person under investigation) at saka 'yung presensya ng coronavirus sa community,” the Manila local chief executive said. (That’s one of the bases, the possibility of exposure and the presence of the virus in the community) It can be recalled that just last week, the city of Manila placed Sampaloc under a 48-hour lockdown because of the high number of COVD-19 cases. Although the city government is considering the option, Moreno said they will still have to study it well, keeping in mind all implications of a hard lockdown.
