TARLAC CITY, Tarlac — Presidential aspirant and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said there was nothing to worry about the appointment of election lawyer George Garcia as new Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner.

“Wala naman, wala naman. Because he’s also my lawyer. Para naman fair sa inyo. Na tumutulong din naman siya sa amin. Official naman ‘yun, hindi naman naikuble (Nothing, nothing. Because he’s also my lawyer. To be fair to you, he also helps us. It’s official, it’s not covered),” he said during an ambush interview here.
“Professional naman si Atty. George. Napaka professional. He’s even a professor of law. Dean ‘yan. Nag tuturo, dekano. Atsaka talagang linya niya ‘yun. I think we’ll be in good hands. The country’s, ‘yung ating eleksyon, malalagay sa magandang kinalalagyan. Being, George being part of the system (Atty. George is very professional. He’s even a professor of law. He’s teaching, a dean. That’s really his line. I think we’ll be in good hands. The country’s, our election, will be in a good position),” he added.
Garcia was also the election lawyer of presidential candidate and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Domagoso disclosed that Garcia was also his lawyer but the latter filed his resignation on Monday, March 7. “But he resigned— of course, wala na siya sa amin (he’s not with us anymore),” he said.
The Manila mayor said they were eyeing Atty. Eric Lazo to replace Garcia.
“Baka si Atty. Laso ang aming ipapalit (Maybe we will replace him with Atty. Lazo) But things are being considered pa because kahapon pa lang nangyari at official na ngayon,” he said.
“I’m happy for Atty. George dahil talagang ang (because his) specialty ni Atty. George is election law. So I think that position is fitted sa kanya (to him).”
