Mayor Isko eyes new Ospital ng Maynila as additional quarantine facility

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said the city government is looking at the possibility of converting the Bagong Ospital ng Maynila into a quarantine facility should the number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the city continue to surge.

Domagoso and city officials inspected the Bagong Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center on Tuesday, Jan 4, as part of the city’s preparation for the spike in COVID-19 cases.
“I think ito ang pinakamalaking emergency room na nakita ko sa buhay ko. ‘Yan oh, pag dito sila e-entrance tapos meron ka pang triage oh. Secluded ‘yun eh. In our mind, pwedeng fall back ito. At least, importante, ready na lahat (that I have seen in my life. When they enter here, there is also a triage. That is secluded. In our mind it can be a fall back. It’s important that everyone is ready),” Domagoso said.
“Kaya ko naisip kasi baka mamaya magkaubusan ng quarantine at least ito aircon tapos secluded. Walang exit ito eh (So I thought maybe later we will run out of quarantine (facility) and at least it’s airconditioned and secluded. There is no exit),” he added.
The emergency room of the newly-constructed Ospital ng Maynila has a floor area of 29,951 square meters.
The 10-story hospital has a 384-bed capacity with 12 intensive care units (ICUs), and 20 private rooms.
The Bagong Ospital ng Maynila also has a three-story parking building and a helipad for emergency medical evacuations.
“Imagine mo pag na-enclose natin ito, baka pwede pag lumobo ‘yung Covid mauubusan ng quarantine. Tutal segregated naman ito tapos may sariling access. Isasarado natin ito. Kasi may access doon eh. Tapos gawan na lang natin to, maabatan lang kasi hindi natin alam ang mangyayari eh (Imagine when we enclose this, maybe when COVID cases swell, we will run out of quarantine facility. This is segregated and has its own access. We will close it because there is access on the other end. Let’s just do it because we don't know what will happen next),” Domagoso said.
Also present during the inspection were Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, Manila City Engineer Armand Andres and hospital officials and staff.
The Bagong Ospital ng Maynila is set for soft-opening this January.
