Over 500,000 families in Manila will each receive a P1,000-cash assistance from the city government as part of an amelioration program during the enforcement of enhanced community quarantine measures to stave off the threats posed by the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso
(Manila City Public Information Office / MANILA BULLETIN) Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso on Sunday signed City Ordinance No. 8625 or the City Amelioration Crisis Asisstance Fund (CACAF), authorizing the allocation of a P591 million-supplemental budget to provide financial aid to about 568,000 families. “The amount of P1,000 per beneficiary-family shall be distributed in the 896 barangays in the city of Manila to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 crisis and to enable the people of Manila to purchase much needed food and supplies for their survival,” the ordinance read. In his city address on Sunday, Domagoso said the house-to-house distribution of the cash aid will start on Tuesday and may be finished within the week. The local chief executive said they have deferred implementation of some less essential projects to gather resources to fund the supplemental budget. According to the ordinance, the funds were sourced from the Office of the Mayor, Manila Department of Social Welfare, and the City Development Fund. The city mayor said he will be giving daily updates on the distribution of the financial aid on top of updating the public on the number of cases, deaths, and recoveries in the city and the distribution of food boxes.
