Manila city gov't begins cash aid distribution

By Minka Klaudia Tiangco The Manila city government began its distribution of the City Amelioration Crisis Assistance Fund (CACAF) to over 500,000 families in the country's capital on Tuesday. (Manila City PIO / MANILA BULLETIN) (Manila City PIO / MANILA BULLETIN) Barangay chairpersons were called to the city hall to receive the said fund and distribute it to the families in their respective barangays. Each family in the 896 barangays in the city will receive a P1,000 in cash aid amid the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) crisis, as announced by Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso. The city mayor said they are targeting to finish distributing the said financial assistance this week. On Sunday, Domagoso signed City Ordinance No. 8625, which authorizes the allocation of a P591 million-supplemental budget to provide financial aid to about 568,000 families. Some "beautification" projects by the city government were "set aside" to amass the fund, the Manila city mayor said. According to the ordinance, the fund was sourced from the Office of the Mayor, Manila Department of Social Welfare, and the City Development Fund. Domagoso is expected to give an update on the distribution of the CACAF on Tuesday evening, aside from updating the public on the number of cases, deaths, and recoveries in the city, the distribution of food boxes, and the individuals and corporations that gave donations to the city of Manila.
