Malacañang thanks frontliners fighting COVID-19

Malacañang has commended the heroism of the frontliners of the country's battle against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), assuring them that the Palace will give them the assistance they need to perform their duties.

In a statement Saturday evening, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said the Office of the President recognizes the very important role of each frontliner.
 
"The Office of the President supports these frontliners and commits itself to throw the resources of its office to ensure that they will continue to get the assistance they need in the performance of their duties," he said.
 
"These selfless and dedicated countrymen of ours who man the ramparts against this scourge of an unseen invader that threatens the very survival of our nation are the new heroes of this generation," he added. "To them goes our prayers to shield them from the dreaded disease and our eternal gratitude for their selfless and heroic deeds."
 
Among those Malacañang thanked for their service were the doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers who continue and constantly place their lives on the line to attend and care for their patients. The Palace also thanked the employees who risk being exposed to -- or infected by -- COVID-19 to report to work at the drugstores, supermarkets, and groceries.
 
In his statement, Panelo also recognized farmers and farm workers who continue to bring their produce and other products to sell in wet markets; the employees of food preparation and delivery services who make sure there is sufficient food supply; and business owners who cause the delivery of essential food and basic items.
 
He also commended the drivers of designated vehicles who bring thousands of frontline employees and health workers to and from work, including those who deliver agricultural products and other food items.
 
Malacañang lauded employees in the private and public sectors who form part of the skeletal workforces of their offices to see to it that basic private and government services remain in operation.
 
The Palace reiterated its expression of gratitude to local government officials who rise to the challenge thrown by the health crisis to enforce the established protocols and guidelines of the enhanced community quarantine.
 
Panelo likewise thanked media workers who bring to the nation the news and information about the fight against COVID-19 to keep the public informed of the evolving development of the crisis for its guidance.
 
The courageous officers and men of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other law enforcement agencies were also recognized by Malacañang, noting that they had to leave their families to ensure the strict enforcement of the measures set by the national government, maintain peace and order, and secure the safety of the public.
 
In addition, Panelo said the Office of the President would like to relay its thanks to the local scientists and researchers for their intellect, creativity, and efforts in developing test kits.
 
He also commended the pilots and cabin crew of various airlines who brought overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to their countries of work, as well as other countrymen and residents who are being flown back to the country from other parts of the world.
