The Land Transportation Office (LTO) suspended on Wednesday all work and transactions in two if its offices in Quezon City after 12 of their staff tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) following a rapid antibody testing.
In a statement sent to reporters on Wednesday, LTO Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante said that its Central Office along East Avenue and its Quezon City Licensing Office will be closed until Friday for disinfection.
"The health and safety of our employees, as well as those of the public whom we are serving is important. We have suspended operations in order to make sure that the threat of spreading the coronavirus at our offices is contained. We are now conducting disinfection as well as further testing on all of our employees," Galvante assured.
According to the agency, it conducted a rapid test on its 100 employees last week and last Monday, 12 of whom tested positive.
The LTO said that the infected employees -- which are from the executive director's office, finance department, and the law enforcement -- already underwent the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) swab test and are awaiting confirmatory results.
With this, the LTO ordered all employees in its two offices to undergo mandatory testing for COVID-19 on Thursday, June 18, prior to the resumption of operations on Monday, June 22.
Meanwhile, the LTO added there is no need to worry for the transacting public as none from the licensing and registration offices tested positive.
"The LTO observed the standard health protocol set forth by the IATF like the mandatory wearing of face mask, implementing social distancing, and the like to protect its employees and clients," it added.
