Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana suggested the postponement of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Homecoming to a later date, in light of the 2019 novel coronavirus acute respiratory disease (nCoV ARD).

(Jansen Romero / MANILA BULLETIN) Lorenzana said in a statement late Tuesday night that the Department of National Defense (DND) "supports the decision of the PMA to close its grounds to visitors." "We deem it prudent to avoid situations where the health and safety of our cadets, PMA alumni, and their families are put at risk," he added. Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong recently imposed a "mandatory city-wide lockdown for tourists and visitors" in the city as a preventive measure against the 2019 nCoV ARD. He also announced the cancellation of "all crowd drawing events" including the celebrated opening parade of the Panagbenga Festival which was supposed to be on February 1. "Unless the Mayor reverses his decision before February 14, then I suggest that the PMA Homecoming be moved to a more auspicious date in the future," Lorenzana said. The PMA Alumni Association Incorporated (PMAAAI) belied earlier rumors that the homecoming would be cancelled much like the Panagbenga Festival.
