Locally made PPE to improve supply to health frontliners — Robredo

The Office of the Vice President is a step closer to its goal of providing locally made and reusable protective suits for health workers and other frontliners amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis.

Vice President Leni Robredo said local sewers from various areas have already produced protective suits which are set to be distributed to COVID-19 frontliners this week.
“Itong mga protective suits na ibibigay namin, bawat suit nakalagay kung sino iyong nag-donate. Para iyong nakatanggap, puwede silang magpasalamat direkta,” she said on her radio show, “BISErbisyong Leni.” (Each suit bears the name of the person who donated it so the recipients can directly thank them.)
Robredo assured the medical frontliners of the quality of the locally made suits that will protect them from the deadly virus.
“Pagbigay namin mula Lunes, nakalagay doon kung papaano siya aalagaan para magamit ng magamit. Ang budget namin per health worker, mga dalawa o tatlo,” she said.
(When we distribute the suits starting Monday, there are care instructions on it so they can keep on using it. Our budget is about two to three suits per health worker.)
The vice president said the local makers of the protective suits hail from Marawi City and her hometown of Naga City.
Fashion designer Mich Dulce and members of the Manila Protective Gear Sewing Club initiated the efforts to make face masks and suits for COVID-19 frontliners.
With the help of partner-donors, Robredo said they will ease the growing demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) in the country.
“Iyong kabutihan nito ay mas maganda na iyong supply namin ngayon. Mayroon pang mga kulang-kulang pero mas maganda na dahil mayroon na tayong locally produced,” she said.
(The good result of this is we have better supply now. We are still lacking but it becomes better because of our locally produced suits.)
The OVP and its private partner, Kaya Natin! Movement, have now raised P50.9 million to buy 116,262 PPE sets and 13,241 food and care packages for health workers and frontliners.
Of this amount, Robredo said they have already distributed 69,075 PPE sets to 327 hospitals nationwide.
