DAVAO CITY – Davao Region COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) Task Force Chairperson Mayor Sara Z. Duterte bared Wednesday that the declaration of lockdown in every local government unit (LGU) in the region will be halted for 14 days due to the region-wide community quarantine.
In an interview with 87.5 Davao City Disaster Radio FM on Wednesday afternoon, Duterte said the governors and mayors have agreed to put on hold their respective local declarations since the region will now have a system and awareness campaign to impose.
Duterte said she presented to the local executives in the region that the city will not implement a complete lockdown because the primary facilities, such as hospitals and other government offices are located here.
But the mayor clarified that this did not mean anyone can just go around to other places in the region even if they did not have any important business to attend to.
“You can only travel in the region for work,” she said.
“Nagingon na daan ang Mayor sa Samal (Island Garden City of Samal) nga di gihapon sila magpasulod kung maligo lang mog dagat sa ilaha (The mayor of IGACoS already tell me that he will not allow anyone in the island just be in the beach),” Duterte added.
The mayor explained even the local lockdown was temporarily lifted for the residents in the region, but they still need to undergo stringent screening measures.
She said the workers still need to go into temperature check, submit health declaration to authorities and show identification cards from their employers.
For those who have business transactions in the city, they need to present their business permits or any proof for them to be allowed to enter the area.
“Kung wala kay mapakita ana, you do not have the right to travel (If you coould not show proof then, you do not have the right to travel),” she said.
Duterte also said those, who are working here but are not residents of the region, are advised to stay here for 14 days as soon as the lockdown will start on the midinght of March 19.
However, she said that anyone can go outside the region but they could not enter until the next 14 days.
