LGUs nationwide urged to comply with May 10 deadline for SAP distribution

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reiterated on Saturday that the May 10 deadline for the distribution of the cash grants under the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) to the most vulnerable sector will no longer be extended.

(PCOO / MANILA BULLETIN FILE PHOTO) DILG undersecretary and spokesperson Jonathan Malaya stressed this pointing to the declaration of DILG Secretary Eduardo Año for another postponement of the deadline. Earlier, Año extended from April 30 to May 7 the deadline for the distribution of financial assistance cash aid and further put it off for May 10. Año’s decision for the deadline extension was prompted by the calls from the local government units (LGUs) considering the difficulty in complying with the order of distributing the cash aid to the grantees without violating the physical distancing rule. These challenges were evident in the urban areas like the National Capital Region (NCR), Cavite, Rizal, Laguna, Bulacan, Cebu, and Davao City. Año warned that the non-complying LGUs will be issued with show cause orders from the DILG. On a positive note, Malaya said the cash aid distribution nationwide has reached 85.49 percent.
