Aguilar directed the City Social Welfare and Development Office (DSWD) to mobilize its volunteers and other department heads to tap several personnel to help in packing basic food supplies to ensure that all families would be given the second wave of assistance.
She said that the city had released and distributed a total of 90,000 food packs consisting of rice, vegetables, canned goods, and packs of noodles to the needy city residents since the ECQ was implemented last month.
The mayor said the second batch of food packs would be distributed the earliest possible time as she ordered the immediate purchase of more basic commodity supplies.
Aguilar also said that the distribution will be carried out by the Incident Management Team through the usual safe and orderly manner.
Last week, the city released a total of P10-million for cash assistance to 6,500 tricycle drivers and 3,500 pedicab operators who were deprived of their daily earnings under the ECQ.
“We continue to find ways to extend help to our Las Piñeros who are mostly affected by the ECQ brought about by COVID-19 pandemic, which we all pray will be over soon,” Aguilar said.
Aguilar also expressed support to the Metro Manila Council resolution urging the DSWD and the Department of Finance to reinstate the original number of target beneficiaries in all 17 Metro Manila local government units for the Special Amelioration Packages.
