(MANILA PIO / MANILA BULLETIN) Domagoso signed an executive order authorizing the shutdown in the district from 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. There are now 458 COVID-19 cases in the city with 51 deaths and 58 recoveries as of Monday afternoon. The local chief executive said they will be conducting disease surveillance, verification or testing, and rapid risk assessment while the district, that houses 192 barangays, is under lockdown. “Isa ito sa makakatulong kung saan I’m hoping na mapapababa natin ang bilang ng contagion (I’m hoping that this can help in lowering the number of cases in the area),” Domagoso said in a live announcement, citing studies done by the city government. As of Monday afternoon, Sampaloc is the district with the highest number of cases in the city with 99 confirmed COVID-19 cases, latest data from the city government showed. During the lockdown, no one is allowed to go out of their houses, except for health workers, law enforcers, service workers, government officials, and workers in the media. All commercial, industrial, retail, institutional, and other activities not mentioned in the exemptions will also be suspended while the lockdown is in effect. The Manila mayor directed elements of the Manila Police District (MPD) to deploy officers and personnel in strategic locations to ensure the effective implementation of the order. Domagoso said violators will be brought to a sports complex converted into holding facilities to prevent the spread of the disease in the city’s jails and police stations.
