COTABATO CITY – At least 5,180 households in 12 of 63 barangays in North Cotabato towns, which are now under the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), have received relief goods from the Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (READI) program.

READI workers said recipient-households were from Barangays Balacayon, Buricain, Lower Baguer, Lower Pangancalan, Datu Binasing, Datu Mantil, Kadingilan, Libungan Toreta, Matilac, Patot, Upper Pangankalan, and Simsiman, all in Pigcawayan town.
The 5,180 families received through their barangay officials packages containing 10 kilos of rice, six cans of sardines, six cans of corned beef, 10 sachets of coffee, paracetamol medicines, and bath soaps, READI’s Myrna Jo Henry said.
Henry said the 41 other villages in Pikit, Aleosan, Carmen, Kabacan, and Midsayap town that also opted for inclusion in BARMM territory will receive their shares in the next legs of READI program dispersals within this month.
“Our workers are continuously repacking (foods and goods) for the 41 other villages in next episodes of READI,” she said.
Thursday’s dispersal involving four truckloads of relief goods was the first distribution of the READI’s operations for all 63 villages, spearheaded by BARMM Minister of Local Government Naguib Sinarimbo, she said.
Sinarimbo, who was named by BARMM Chief Minister Ahod “Hadji Murad” Ebrahim as administrator of the program, said relief goods being distributed by READI workers were in addition to those dispersed by the region’s Ministry of Social Service and Development (MSSD).
READI workers assisted in the delivery of the relief goods, and health services in 2,527 villages in Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi and cities of Cotabato, Marawi and Lamitan by MSSD and BARMM’s Health Ministry, it was learned.
Henry said most of READI workers had trained on Incident Command System (ICS) operations to provide rescue and paramedical services in case the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic escalated.
