Iloilo city, province now under enhanced community quarantine

By Tara Yap ILOILO CITY — Both the city and province of Iloilo are now under enhanced community quarantine due to the threat of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). (Tara Yap/Manila Bulletin) This was after Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. issued an executive order Friday afternoon, supplementing the executive order of Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas. While there are still no positive COVID-19 cases, the enhanced community quarantine that took effect Friday will limit the movement of people in Iloilo province, which consists of 42 towns and a component city of Passi as well as Iloilo City, the regional capital of Western Visayas. “Don’t resist this because the penalty is that you would be infected,” warned Defensor Friday. “We are at war with something we can’t see,” added Treñas. The strict quarantine orders the closure of all offices, businesses and commercial establishments except the ones giving basic services such as public markets, supermarkets, grocery stores, convenient stores, bakeshops, restaurants, fast food chains, water-refilling stations, hospitals, clinics, medical facilities, pharmacies, banks, pawnshops, and gasoline stations. There’s also a daily curfew every 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. except for frontliners such as health workers, government officials, BPO workers, and the media.
