Gov't prohibits travel to Basilan, Lanao del Sur and Camiguin

The Joint Task Force COVID Shield ordered on Tuesday all police commanders in Metro Manila to suspend the issuance of Travel Authority for all Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs) bound for Basilan, Lanao del Sur and Camiguin.

Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, commander of the JTF COVID Shield, said the temporary deferment of issuance of Travel Authority was based on the decision of the National Task Force Against COVID-19 to stop the movement of LSIs in Metro Manila to the three provinces for 15 days starting July 1.

The governors of the three provinces earlier requested the NTF Against COVID 19 to defer the travel of LSIs to their respective provinces for them to have more time to disinfect and decongest quarantine facilities.

Travel Authority serves as a ticket for an LSI to pass through the police and military checkpoints for travels that cross the borders of Metro Manila and the provinces. The requirement is Medical Clearance Certificate and coordination with the receiving Local Government Units.

In Metro Manila, station commanders, chiefs of police, district directors, the Regional Director of the National Capital Region Police Office and the police’s Director for Operations are allowed to issue Travel Authority.

Aside from the three provinces, the issuance of Travel Authority remains suspended for LSIs bound for Western Visayas and Eastern Visayas.

The travel ban for Eastern Visayas started on June 25 while the same ban was effected on June 28 for Western Visayas, including Cebu Island and Mactan Island in Region 7.

PLt. Gen. Eleazar said they will wait for the instruction from the NTF COVID-19 before the termination of the travel ban in Eastern Visayas on July 9 and in Western Visayas, Cebu Island and Mactan Island on July 12.

The travel going to and out of Cebu City, on the other hand, remains suspended indefinitely as the area is still under the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).
