Gokongwei Group sets up P100M fund for COVID-19, waives mall rental fees

By Noreen Jazul The Gokongwei Group has set up a P100 million fund to help alleviate the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the country. (MANILA BULLETIN / AFP) (MANILA BULLETIN / AFP) The conglomerate, through its philanthropic arm Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF), said the fund will be allocated to “national and local frontline health providers currently serving in various hospitals to combat the dreaded disease and the local communities where the conglomerate’s various businesses operate.” The GBF said it will provide personal protective equipment (PPE) and test kits to the UP Medical Foundation and PGH Medical Foundation, and other healthcare frontliners. Various companies of the Gokongwei Group have also made efforts to provide assistance and relief to its respective stakeholders. The Gokongwei Group’s food manufacturing arm, Universal Robina Corporation (URC), has donated food products and other basic necessities. Its real estate property arm, Robinsons Land Corp. (RLC), has already waived rental charges “for all non-operational tenants of its various malls for the period during which the mall is closed because of the community quarantine.” “Through the rent condonation, RLC can assist their tenant establishments to reallocate funds and allow them to extend financial assistance to their employees for this emergency,” the Gokongwi Group said. RLC has also provided support to various hospitals in the National Capital Region for the purchase of testing kits.
