CEBU CITY—The mayors of highly urbanized cities of Cebu, Lapulapu and Mandaue thanked Senator Christopher Lawrence Go for his appeal to the executive branch to extend a one-time 'Bayanihan' financial assistance to cities and municipalities in the country to help ease the socio-economic impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis on indigents and marginalized sectors in their respective areas.

In a teleconference interview through the "Mugstoria Ta!" program, Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) Assistant Secretary asked Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella, Mandaue Mayor Jonas Cortes, and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan about their reactions of the appeal made by the Senator.
The three mayors agreed with the appeal and grateful that the government considered the local government units as also the front liners in addressing the needs of the most vulnerable sectors in society.
Labella said that, of all the senators in the country, it was only Go, who has been most visible in Cebu, because of his assistance to fire victims.
"Pasalamat kay mi ni Senator Bong Go, dako kaayo nakong pasalamat kay si Senator Bong Go among the many senators siya gyud ang naa dinhi permi. Kada naa'y masunog, the day after or two days after naa si Senator Bong Go naghatag sa iyahang ayuda," Labella said.
"Ang iyahang Malasakit Program dako kaayo og tabang, karon iyaha na sab dugangan aning iya kaorng ayuda, dako kaayo nig tabang kanato hilabi na sa akong mga kaigsuonan nga mayor,"Labella added. (He has been very helpful to the Cebuanos with its Malasakit Center program and now, the plan of extending financial assistance through the 'Bayanihan' financial assistance.)
Mandaue City Mayor Cortes shared the same sentiments of Labella, "Mapasalamaton kay me sa plano sa atong senador, kaning Bayanihan nga hinabang nga gikan sa national. Sama sa Cebu City, ang Mandaue usab nga kada sunog, in a matter of few days ang atong pinanggan Senador naa gyud dayon, manghatag og assistance, hinabang ngadto sa mga fire victims. Makita nato og unsang klase nga serbisyo nga iyang gisaad iyang gituman." (We are very thankful of the senator’s plan, the Bayanihan aid that comes from the national government. Just like Cebu City, Mandaue is also a recipient of assistance for fire victims. We can see the kind of service the senator is giving to the communities here.)
Cortes added that this was the time when Cebuanos should help each other in this fight against COVID-19.
Chan also thanked Go for always extending help to the Filipino people, especially now that the country is mired in a crisis.
(We are so thankful of senator Bong Go because of his regular and consistently sincere services to the entire nation especially during disasters.)
In his latest statement, Go reminded local government units (LGUs) to make sure that the assistance from National Government reaches to those who are in need especially the poorest of the poor, vulnerable sector and displaced workers.
“Pakiusap ko lang, huwag na pong haluan ng pulitika ang pagtulong. Hindi po iyan nakakatulong sa sitwasyon natin ngayon. Huwag na natin pahirapan pa ang mga tao, tumulong nalang tayo na pabilisin ang pagbigay ng tulong sa kanila,” Go said.
