A Filipino obstetrician-gynecologist in Las Vegas continued to render service, before eventually being stricken down by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on April 22.
Dr. Arthur Tayengco of Las Vegas, Nevada died at age 81, an article in the Asian Journal reported.
Dr. Tayengco, it was also reported, has been serving his profession for 50 years.
His ex-wife Delia said that Tayengco got infected in March after two of his officemates at Charleston Boulevard also tested positive for COVID-19.
After exhibiting some symptoms, he was tested and the test came out positive.
His daughter Michele told the Asian Journal that her father simply didn’t want to stop working.
She recalled that whenever she’d asks if he wanted to retire, her father’s answer would be: “No, I’m not done yet.”
Filipino frontliners continue to render service abroad despite the risk of losing even their very lives.
Barely a month ago, Filipino nurse Dennis Guillermo, 44, of New York also got infected and eventually succumbed to COVID-19.
