ECQ in 4 Pasig streets to tighten Sunday night - Police

Combined law enforcement personnel from Pasig City police and the local government have been deployed Sunday to enforce the localized lockdown on four streets in Barangay Manggahan, Pasig.

Pasig City Police chief Col. Moises Villaceran said 86 police officers will man the entrance and exit points of Pipino, Labanos, Okra, and Ubas Streets in Napico, Barangay Manggahan.

At least 30 more personnel from the Eastern Police District Mobile Force Battalion will also be deployed to conduct patrols aside from members of the Pasig City Traffic and Management Office (TPMO) and barangay safety officers.

“What we have done now was to set up tents and barricades at the entrance and exit points which will be manned by the police and members of the TPMO and barangay security forces,” Villaceran told Manila Bulletin.

Pasig City has 1,212 confirmed cases, 457 active cases, 661 recoveries, and 94 deaths.

Latest data shows that Barangay Pinagbuhatan, the city’s most populated village, has the most number of COVID-19 cases with 198 confirmed cases, 99 active cases, 88 recoveries, and 11 deaths.

Barangay Manggahan is next with 109 confirmed cases, 53 active cases, 49 recoveries, and seven deaths as of July 18.

Mayor Vico Sotto announced late Saturday night that a localized enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) will be imposed on Pipino, Labanos, Okra, and Ubas streets starting Sunday (July 19) due to the surge of COVID-19 cases in the area.

The lockdown will start Sunday (July 19) “until lifted by the City Government.”

“Strict implementation will begin Sunday evening. Residents will only be allowed to leave their houses for work and emergency reasons,” the advisory said.

Sotto said the local government will provide affected residents with food packs to minimize the need to buy food outside.

Villaceran said only authorized persons outside of residence will be allowed to go out. This includes workers and those seeking emergency assistance.

As of posting, the implementation of the lockdown is not yet strict. Villaceran said they will start to implement the localized ECQ Sunday night.

He said residents who want to buy their necessities could ask permission or assistance from the authorities stationed in the area.
