A state-run hospital in Quezon City debunked a claim circulating online that it was put on lockdown because of a suspected novel coronavirus (nCoV)-infected patient Tuesday night.
East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC)
The East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) in a statement through its media relations committee allayed public fears on the claim sent through online messaging.
“Please be advised that there is no truth to the rumor that EAMC is on lockdown due to a coronavirus suspect patient,” the hospital said in a statement. “EAMC is continuously providing healthcare services to the public at the OPD (outpatient department), ward, and ER (emergency room) departments.”
The Department of Health (DOH) hospital, however, did not categorically confirm or deny that a patient under investigation due to the infectious disease is admitted at the hospital.
In a facebook post, the health agency clarified that it is fake news.
"FAKE CONTENT ALERT: DOH flags the circulating message regarding the lockdown of East Avenue Medical Center as fake. " it said.
"EAMC is continuously providing healthcare services to the public at the OPD, Ward, and ER Departments," it added.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III earlier said that DOH hospitals in Metro Manila are capable of accepting patients who manifest symptoms of the disease.
“Kaya pa. Hindi lang naman San Lazaro lang, marami tayong mga hospital sa kasalukuyan. Sa NCR meron tayong 13 hospitals, sa Region 3 meron din tayo. Nakahanda na sila at magkaroon sila ng karagdagang isolation rooms kung kinakailangan (We are capable. It’s not just San Lazaro Hospital alone, we have more hospitals at present. In National Capital Region we have 13 hospitals, in Region 3 we also have hospitals. They are ready and they will convert more isolation rooms if needed),” Duque said.
The agency said Tuesday that the number of patients under investigation (PUIs) for 2019-novel coronavirus infection in the Philippines has reached 105. (With a report from Allysa Nievera)
