Duterte names Galvez chief implementer of COVID-19 policies

By Argyll Geducos President Duterte has named Peace Process Adviser Carlito Galvez Jr. the chief implementer of the Philippines' declared national policy against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The memorandum was signed on March 24. As chief implementer, Galvez is to ensure the strict compliance and adherence of everyone to the guidelines and protocols issued by the Inter-agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases. He was likewise tasked to protect and promote the safety and welfare of the public at all times. He was also directed to ensure the efficient and expeditious distribution of government assistance to the public, especially to the citizens who are "in most need." Cabinet Secretary and IATF spokesperson Karlo Nograles said Wednesday that the National Action Plan (NAP) for COVID-19 was already "approved in principle." According to Nograles, the NAP was crafted to adopt measures that will provide clear, accurate, and timely information to support the operations against the COVID-19 pandemic. "These measures will include creating a system or platform for regular reporting and updating on COVID-19-related news in the country, giving regular press releases, and other measures to provide information to the public," he said. The Palace official added that the plan will adopt measures to contain the disease, reduce the spread of new cases, and facilitate the detection, identification, and isolation of COVID-19 carriers. It also aims to continuously sustain the conduct of the operations against the pandemic in terms of human resources, logistics, and finance, and mitigate the consequences and impact of COVID-19 pandemic on the social, economic, and personal security of the Filipino people. Meanwhile, Nograles also announced Wednesday that Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana was designated to lead the national task force (NTF) created by the IATF to address the threat of COVID-19.
