DSWD reports aid given to 14.8 M SAP beneficiaries

By Charissa Luci-Atienza Over 14.8 million beneficiaries or 82.5 percent of the 18 million low-income families targeted to receive the emergency subsidy under the government's Social Amelioration Program (SAP) have received their cash assistance, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Saturday, May 9. (MANILA BULLETIN) Department of Social Welfare and Development (MANILA BULLETIN) DSWD Spokesperson Irene Dumlao said as of last night (May 8), a total of 14, 866, 464 households have benefited from SAP, receiving more than P82.8 billlion worth of cash subsidies. "Umabot na sa P82.5 billion (P82,865,330,050) ang naipamahagi sa 14.8 million (14,866, 464) na benepisyaryo ng Social Amelioration Program, (P82.5 billion has been distributed to 14.8 million beneficiaries of the Social Amelioration Program.)," she told the Manila Bulletin in a Viber message, citing the latest the DSWD's SAP monitoring report. Of the current 14.8 million SAP beneficiaries, 10.9 million are low-income and non-Pantawid Pamilya families and received P65.4 billion in cash aid, she said. Dumlao said they remain confident that the LGUs will be able to complete the distribution of cash subsidies to the remaining 3.2 million beneficiaries tomorrow, May 10 as imposed by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). "The DSWD trusts that the LGUs will be able to deliver the aid to their constituents who have been greatly affected by the crisis," she said. Last Wednesday (May 6) night, DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista and DILG Secretary Eduardo Año both agreed to allow the LGUs to distribute the cash aid for another three days or until May 10. The DILG earlier extended to seven days the SAP distribution after LGUs failed to comply with the April 30 deadline.
