DSWD, LGUs provide P293.35-M worth of humanitarian assistance to 'Odette' victims

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and local government units (LGUs) have so far provided over P293.35 million worth of assistance to families affected by typhoon Odette (international name: "Rai").
Of the total assistance, P235.82 million was provided by the DSWD, P55.73 million from LGUs, P1.77 million from non-government organizations, and 12,500 from DSWD's other partners as of Sunday, Jan. 2.
In its typhoon Odette assistance report, DSWD also said that there are still 89,282 families or 355,064 individuals staying in 1,489 evacuation centers in Mimaropa (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga.
There are also 58,822 families or 190,248 persons temporarily staying with relatives or friends in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.
Moreover, DSWD said there are 148,104 households or 545,312 individuals still displaced in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga.
Typhoon Odette also damaged 779,016 houses in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga--230,047 of which were totally damaged and 548,969 were partially damaged.
Likewise, following the order of President Duterte to distribute "trapal" or tarpaulin sheets to Odette-hit areas, the DSWD facilitated the provision of shelter materials to families affected by the typhoon.
A Boeing Aircraft delivered 500 rolls of sakoline or laminated sacks to Butuan City on Dec. 28, 2021.
DSWD field offices in areas also affected by Odette have already committed to send more tarpaulin sheets and family tents to the disaster-hit areas.
