DOLE rolls out work program for persons whose jobs were affected by the Luzon quarantine

In Department Order 210-2020 that was released Wednesday, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) identifies the qualified beneficiaries of the program as the underemployed, self-employed workers, and displaced marginalized workers who have lost their livelihood or whose earnings were affected due to the enhanced community quarantine against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). DOLE said the duration of work under the TUPAD program shall be limited to 10 days and the beneficiary shall receive the minimum daily wage of the region. As for the nature of work, the labor department said it shall be the "disinfection or sanitation of their houses or dwellings and immediate vicinity of their houses." The Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Displaced/Disadvantaged Workers Program is one of the flagship programs of DOLE which aims to contribute to poverty reduction and inclusive growth. It is a community-based assistance package that provides temporary wage employment for displaced workers, underemployed, and self-employed workers. On Tuesday, the DOLE announced that it is rolling out a P180-million emergency employment program under the TUPAD for some 18,000 informal sector workers. The DOLE also approved the provision of a one-time financial assistance benefit for about 250,000 formal sector workers affected by the quarantine.
