Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the department is set to discuss their "post-COVID-19 recovery plan" next month.
"We are now conceptualizing a post-COVID-19 recovery plan. Meron po kaming pinaplano at ipe-presenta namin in due time sa inter-agency task force (IATF). Ito, total approach ito. Ang unang-una namin na inaasikaso dito ay 'yung employment," Bello sad.
(We are planning something and we will present it in due time to the IATF. This will be a total approach. What we are prioritizing here is employment.)
The labor chief said their "central focus" is to ensure that workers will not lose their jobs.
"We have to be very sure na 'yung ating mga employees, manggagawa natin ay hindi mawalan ng trabaho (We have to be very sure that our workers will not lose their jobs). In fact, we were saying that, more than the issue of security of tenure is the issue of employment."
The DOLE recently reported that over one million workers have been displaced by the COVID-19 outbreak.
“As of April 13, we have recorded the displacement of 1,428,841 workers as reported by 52,993 establishments. More than one million of those were due to temporary closures, while the balance were affected by various flexible work arrangements,” DOLE said in a recent statement.
