DOJ: Barangay checkpoints must be placed under PNP supervision

By Jeffrey Damicog All barangay checkpoints should be placed under the supervision of the Philippine National Police (PNP) based on the directives of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said on Wednesday. “All barangay checkpoints must now be under its supervision,” said Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete. “No PNP, no barangay checkpoints,” the DOJ spokesman said. Perete added that the “PNP shall likewise orient barangay officials/officers on IATF guidelines.” The Undersecretary noted that PNP Directorate for Operations Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Luis Licup has already issued a memorandum dated March 23 on this matter. “All QCPs (quarantine control points) at the barangay level shall be coordinated with the Municipal Joint Task Group and to be supervised by the Unit Commanders/COPs (chiefs of police),” the memorandum indicated. It also instructed that “all Unit Commanders/COPs shall ensure that all established QCPs at the municipal and barangay level are properly supervised.” “Likewise, ensure that it operates in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the national government,” the police officials were told.
