The Department of Health (DOH ) reported Tuesday (May 19) that the number of COVID-19 cases in Quezon City stood at 1,856 from the previous 1,832 as of 7 p.m.
As in previous counts, the DOH tally differed from the number of cases validated by the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (QCESU) and District Health Offices which is 1,504, up by 20 from the last tally of 1,484 in the same period.
The Quezon City Health Department (QCHD) noted that the number of confirmed cases with complete addresses in Quezon City jumped from 1,663 to 1,673.
In the same QCHD report, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the locality, which refers to those who have not fully recovered, increased by 16 from the previous 747 to the current 763.

As of 7 p.m. on May 19, the number of COVID-19 related recoveries in Quezon City is now 578, up by two from the previous 576, while the death toll has risen from 161 to 163.

Extreme enhanced community quarantine (EECQ)
Mayor Joy Belmonte said the EECQ has been enforced in barangays with at least two confirmed COVID-19 cases and in various streets and/or in congested urban poor areas where fast transmission is most likely to occur.
She explained this will still be subjected to daily review depending on the number of cases/recoveries.
However, Belmonte noted that the newly reported barangays with two cases have not yet been included in the list as they are still subjected to validation.
As of 7 p.m. on May 19, the Quezon City government has enforced EECQ in the following barangays:
Tandang Sora, Kalusugan, Ramon Magsaysay, Maharlika, Tatalon, Batasan Hills, Pasong Tamo, Central, San Roque, Paligsahan, Bagong Lipunan ng Crame, South Triangle, Culiat, Bahay Toro, E. Rodriguez, San Isidro Labrador, Matandang Balara, Teachers Village West, Manresa,
Paltok, Sto. Domingo, Bagong Silangan, Holy Spirit, Payatas, Marilag, Socorro, Kamuning, Pinyahan, San Isidro Galas, Commonwealth, Pansol, North Fairview, Novaliches Proper, and New Era.
Hope 1 facility
As of May 19, HOPE 1 is occupied by 25 confirmed and seven suspected COVID-19 patients with nine rooms still available.
Hope 2 facility
At present, 124 rooms remain available as 170 beds are occupied by confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patients.
Those who have been tested in the city’s community-based testing centers are brought to this facility for self-isolation while waiting for their results.
Hope 3 facility
Hope 3 was opened to accommodate confirmed and suspected COVID-19 nursing mothers and their babies. The facility is equipped with 84 beds, cribs, bassinets, and other baby essentials.
As of May 19, 33 confirmed patients are admitted in Hope 3.
Special concern lockdown (SCL) areas
The Quezon City government has placed certain areas in Barangays Bahay Toro, Culiat, Sauyo, Batasan Hills, and Tatalon under 14-day SCL since May 13 due to the high number of COVID-19 cases in these areas.
Initial areas under SCL include:
Sitio Militar in Barangay Bahay Toro; Vargas Compound-Adelfa Metro Heights-Abanay and Ancop Canada in Barangay Culiat; Lower Gulod in Barangay Sauyo; 318 Dakila St., 2nd Alley Kalayaan B and Masbate St. in Barangay Batasan Hills; Victory Avenue; ROTC Hunters, BMA Avenue, and Agno St. in Barangay Tatalon.
Modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ)
Belmonte has issued guidelines with the city shifting to MECQ on May 16.
Even with the MECQ, Belmonte stressed that quarantine protocols should be strictly observed. She asked the public to stay home as much as possible, wear proper face masks, and observe social distancing.
Social Amelioration Program (SAP)
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), assisted by the Quezon City government, is distributing the financial support under the social amelioration program (SAP) to the qualified beneficiaries.
