DOH reports another 20K new COVID-19 cases

For the third consecutive day, the Philippines recorded more than 20,000 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 20,019 new COVID-19 patients, pushing the nationwide tally of confirmed cases to 2,080,984 on Sunday, Sept. 5.

It said that “119 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 95 are recoveries and one is a death.”

Of the total, 7.6 percent or 157,438 are active cases or patients still being treated. Ninety-two percent of them have mild symptoms, 3.4 percent are asymptomatic, 0.7 percent are critical, 1.4 percent are severe, 2.51 percent are moderate.

The death toll also grew to 34,234 after 173 more fatalities were logged on Sunday, the DOH said. The case fatality rate is at 1.65 percent.

Meanwhile, 20,089 more patients have gotten better, pushing the number of recoveries to 1,889,312 or 90.8 percent of the nationwide tally.

The DOH advised the public to immediately do self-quarantine if they experience any symptoms of the viral illness.

“Ang maagang konsultasyon at pagpapatest ay makakatulong upang maputol ang hawaan sa mga bahay, komunidad, at sa mga lugar na pinagtatrabahuhan (Early consultation and testing will help in cutting the transmission of the virus in homes, communities, and workplaces),” the DOH said.
