DOH reports 16 new COVID-19 cases in Davao region

By Antonio Colina DAVAO CITY – The total number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in Davao Region reached 345 on Friday (May 29), with the addition of 16 new positive patients, according to Department of Health-Davao Region. The 15 new cases were reported in Davao City, bringing its total to 298, which comprised 86.37 percent of total cases in the entire region, the highest in Mindanao. The province of Davao del Sur reported 13 cases, including its new additional case. The cases in the other provinces of Davao remain unchanged: Davao del Norte listed 15 cases; Davao de Oro, two; Davao Oriental, 15; and Davao Occidental, two. The case profiles of the new positive cases are usually released by the DOH-Davao on the following day. On Friday, the region saw its highest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases when it reported 52 positives. At least 30 of these cases were reported in Davao City; seven in Digos City, one Hagonoy, and one in Sulop in Davao del Sur; nine in Banaybanay and three in San Isidro in Davao Oriental; and one in the Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS), Davao del Norte. Of the 30 cases in Davao City, three were residents of Barangay 76-A; two Bago Gallera; two Wilfredo Aquino, Agdao; two Barangay 5-A; one Tigatto; one Agdao Proper; one Leon Garcia Sr., Agdao; one Barangay 23-C; one Barangay 22-C; one Matina Aplaya; one Centro, Agdao; one Santo Niño, Tugbok; one Indangan; one Cabantian; one Malagos; one Talomo Proper; one Barangay 18-B; one Barangay 6-A; one Maa; one San Antonio, Agdao; and one Catalunan Pequeño. The youngest among the 52 cases was a five-year old girl from Cagangan, Banaybanay, Davao Oriental, while the oldest was a 79-year old female from Matina Aplaya in Davao. Health authorities are currently investigating their histories of exposure.
