The Department of Health Region 8 (DOH-8) has confirmed four new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases from Leyte on Wednesday, June 10. This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases to 76 in Eastern Visayas.
Patient EV-73 is a 38-year-old male and Patient EV-74 is a 37-year-old male. Both are from Ormoc City. They are locally stranded individuals (LSIs) from Cebu City who arrived last May 30.
Patient EV-75 is a 48-year-old male from La Paz, Leyte, and an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Saudi Arabia who arrived last May 28.
Patient EV-76 is a 28-year-old female, an LSI from Matalom, Leyte. She arrived from Cebu on June 7.
Their findings were taken from the 224 sample results released by the Eastern Visayas Regional COVID Testing Center (EVRCTC).
Meanwhile, the Divine Word Hospital has also released a total of 54 negative sample results.
With eight cases in Ormoc City, Mayor Richard Gomez has once again aired his frustrations over the lack of coordination and observance of health protocols for returning residents, beneficiaries of the Balik Probinsya Program, and LSIs.
"There will come a time, maybe in a few days, when local government units (LGUs) can no longer take in more people for quarantine. It’s time for these agencies to listen and not force what they want to do, otherwise the COVID infection in the provinces will just keep on rising exponentially," he lamented.
