DOH logs 2nd highest single-day tally in COVID-19 cases at over 20K

The Philippines reported 20,310 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Friday, Sept. 3----the second highest one-day jump in cases.

The biggest single-day tally was last Aug. 30---with 22,366 infections. The country’s cumulative case count increased to 2,040,568, of which, 158,994 cases are active or those who are still ill.

Majority or 96.5 percent of the active cases are mild, 1.1 percent are asymptomatic,, 0.5 percent are in critical condition, one percent are severe, while 0.92 percent are in moderate condition.

There were 193 new fatalities nationwide, causing the death count to reach 33,873. The case fatality rate is at 1.66 percent.

Recovery tally also went up to 1,847,701 as 7,710 more patients were able to recover, the DOH said.

“Ang pagsunod sa minimum public health standards, maiging pagsasagawa ng PDITR (prevent, detect, isolate, treat, reintegrate) strategies, at pagbabakuna ay nanatiling pinakamabisang depensa sa COVID-19 (Adherence to minimum public health standards, strict implementation of PDITR strategies, and vaccination remain the most effective defenses of COVID-19),” the DOH said.

“Mahalaga rin na tayo ay mag-isolate at makipagugnayan sa BHERTs (Barangay Health Emergency Response Team) kung tayo ay may sintomas ng COVID-19. Ang maagang konsultasyon at pagpapatest ay makatutulong upang maputol ang hawaan sa mga bahay, komunidad, at sa mga lugar na pinagtatrabahuhan (It is also important that we isolate and coordinate with BHERTs if we have symptoms of COVID-19. Early consultation and testing can help cut infection in homes, communities, and workplaces),” it added.
